Over the past six years, the Ballard Jazz Festival has moved from a community event into a nationally recognized festival before deciding that being a neighborhood party with international cred is a rather sweet niche. You know, creamy big band with a hard bop nougat. The Walk starts at 7 p.m. and offers 18 bands spread over 12 venues.

Through the technological wonder and infinite time-sink that is Facebook, I've had the fun of reconnecting with gobs of old friends from college, high school, heck, even grade school; and part of that fun is seeing how many of my friends still maintain their youthful passion for music, no matter what kind. Jeff is off and running to see King Khan in the City, Diana is posting early morning videos of Alan Parsons, Dave has a Kiwi-American hybrid playlist. It's all good.

Electropop duo La Roux are interesting to say the least. Based in the aesthetic and the excess of fashion of the eighties, the British group chug out catchy dance ditties sung by self-described androgynous front woman Eleanor Jackson. With their self-titled debut, La Roux insist that even in these times of despair we all need a little excess every now and again.

Words cannot describe how disappointed I am that King Khan has canceled tonight's show at the Troubadour. The band apparently ran into vehicle problems last night. They're on the way to their gig in San Francisco.

After King Khan canceled tonight's gig, Those Darlins were able to make it to Los Angeles and secure a venue at the last minute. You can catch them tonight @ the Silverlake Lounge. I highly recommend seeing TD, they absolutely kill it live.

The arrest of King Khan and some of his touring partners may have thrown a spanner in the works of their most recent set of dates, but things are slowly returning to normal.

Now the band has issued an official statement and, unfortunately, it doesn't shed much light on the incident.

That would be the Kentucky New Era, whose tagline, "News that hits home," seems especially fitting in this instance.

A pre-mushrooms-related arrest King Khan & BBQ Show perform in front of a construction sire in the video for their ambling "I'll Be Loving You," an excellent Nuggets -ditty from their recently released Invisible Girl. Nice pickelhaube, Khan.

It seems the King Khan and BBQ Show can blame hallucinogenic mushrooms for their weekend woes.
